Why This Reference Exists
Older Ithaca directories remain useful, but their modern counterparts are divided by record purpose. Tompkins County Assessment and the County Clerk handle parcel and recorded-document questions. New York voter information has its own statutory limits. The History Center and Tompkins County Public Library preserve local history material. This private reference brings together the office contacts, access routes, known coverage, and search notes needed to start responsibly in Ithaca.
What the Directory Provides
- Pages by question: the street directory for address-keyed records, city directories for the historical shelf, and resident lookup for one-person research
- Records and custodians: the assessment office, County Clerk, elections office, court clerk, vital-records desk, and local-history collections
- Practical methods: address-to-parcel checks, directory-entry reading, and household trails across time
- Access limits: what New York FOIL opens, what remains protected, and how to request an existing record when it is not online
What We Cannot Do
This is a private reference site, not an Ithaca office, a Tompkins County department, a New York agency, court, or library. Its limits are straightforward:
- We cannot confirm whether a specific person currently lives in Ithaca
- We cannot pull, certify, or change any record on your behalf
- We cannot add anyone to, or remove anyone from, any roll or database
- We cannot give legal advice about a record or a dispute
- We cannot promise that every coverage year, link, or office detail here is current at this moment
The record custodian alone can confirm, certify, or correct a record. Nothing found here may be used for credit, employment, tenant screening, or insurance decisions.
