Browse Ithaca ZIP Codes

An Ithaca ZIP code directory helps sort a mailing address before a local record search begins. Postal delivery areas, municipal lines, college addresses, and property jurisdictions do not use the same boundaries. Start with the complete street address, then keep the postal result separate from the city or town that holds a record. That order prevents a familiar Ithaca mailing label from being mistaken for a city-limit finding. ZIP information narrows a search; it does not establish who lives at an address.

Ithaca ZIP Code Coverage

USPS materials identify four Ithaca postal ZIPs: 14850, 14851, 14852, and 14853. The table uses only the roles documented in the Postal Bulletin material and related sources. It deliberately does not assign unsupported neighborhood boundaries to a ZIP. For an exact street number, use the USPS address tool and separately verify the parcel's municipality.

Postal city names are delivery labels, not municipal findings. The USPS material associates nearby ZIPs with an Ithaca destination post office as well, so “Ithaca” in a mailing field can describe City of Ithaca, Town of Ithaca, Cornell, or another county address. The ZIP code directory is therefore a postal reference, not a map of legal jurisdictions.

Note: A postal city label identifies delivery geography and does not identify the Ithaca municipal custodian for a record.

Ithaca ZIP Roles and Routing

ZIP 14850 is the primary general Ithaca postal ZIP in the research. ZIPs 14851 and 14852 appear in Ithaca routing tables, but the reviewed official pages do not publish a clean neighborhood-by-ZIP boundary list for them. Treat their listed roles as routing guidance. Query USPS with the complete delivery address before describing either ZIP as a fixed neighborhood or a uniform delivery area.

ZIP 14853 illustrates institutional postal geography. Cornell facility documents use Ithaca, NY 14853, and the USPS matrix also reflects the campus ZIP. That fact does not make every 14853 address a City of Ithaca record, nor does it replace a municipal determination. A city, town, campus, postal ZIP, and parcel can all be relevant fields for the same address. Record each field as it appears in its source. Combining them into one “Ithaca” label can send a request to the wrong custodian.

USPS Tools for Ithaca ZIPs

The USPS ZIP Lookup has three documented modes: By Address for a residential or corporate street address with city and state, By City and State for the ZIPs associated with that pair, and Cities by ZIP for the reverse direction. Use the address mode when the goal is to standardize one known address. The city-and-state mode can show a broader postal set, but it cannot supply a municipal boundary.

USPS expressly warns that a ZIP result does not confirm a person or company at an address. That is an important limit for the postal reference. It also warns that postal city, state, and ZIP area can differ, making a destination post-office identity difficult to infer from a mailing label alone.

The USPS Postal Bulletin ZIP matrix is the source for the Ithaca routing-table image.

The matrix is a useful reference for the four Ithaca ZIP codes, but it should be read as postal routing information. It does not prove occupancy, draw a city boundary, or replace an exact-address USPS lookup.

Note: Use the USPS address result as one postal field, then check the same address in county parcel records.

Ithaca Voter ZIP Fields

The New York voter lookup accepts a ZIP field along with a county selection, last name, first name, date of birth, and address information. It requires JavaScript and cookies, and mandatory fields are marked in the portal. Tompkins is among the counties in its dropdown. This is a registered voter's poll-site, registration, and mail-ballot-status workflow, not a browse-all-residents directory.

For an elections-purpose records request, the Tompkins Board of Elections request form allows standard voter lists, walking lists, labels, petitions, or other detail, with delivery by email, USB, print, or labels. The form lists $0.25 per list page, $0.50 per label, $5 for a 1GB USB, and no charge for email; it says requests are processed within five business days and advance payment is required where applicable. The current Board counter location is 214 W. State Street, Ithaca. Election Law §3-103(5) limits use of voter-registration information to elections purposes.

Ithaca ZIP Jurisdictions

Tompkins County contains the City of Ithaca and the separate Town of Ithaca. The Town wraps around the City, while Cornell has its own institutional postal geography. A postal address can say Ithaca while the record custodian is the Town, the City, a campus office, or a county office. Use the GIS parcel map to identify the municipality before asking for a permit, code, assessment, or other local record.

City assessment material identifies City of Ithaca as SWIS 500700 in the sample roll, while the Town has a separate roll and map. Election districts also use county election geography, not a ZIP as a legal key. Store the exact address, USPS ZIP, municipality, parcel identifier, and election district separately when each is needed. One field cannot stand in for the others.

Note: Historic directories and deeds may have no ZIP at all, because postal codes are a later clue rather than a universal address history.

Ithaca ZIP Address Terms

These terms prevent a postal result from carrying more weight than it has. They describe delivery and sorting, not a person's current presence or the government office that holds a record.

ZIP
A five-digit postal routing identifier tied to an address or postal service area.
ZIP+4
An added four digits that refine delivery sorting within a five-digit ZIP; it is not a municipal identifier.
PO Box ZIP
A ZIP used for post-office box or routing purposes. It does not define a city neighborhood or a property boundary.
Institutional ZIP
A ZIP associated with a major institution's mail geography, such as Cornell's documented 14853 use.
Carrier route
A postal delivery grouping used for mail handling. It is not a legal district or a substitute for a parcel boundary.

Use a complete address whenever available. A ZIP+4 or carrier route can sharpen mail handling, but the street number and the parcel municipality remain more dependable for a local-record request.

Ithaca ZIP Limits

USPS Postal Bulletin tables show routing relationships and include a 2025 matrix change referencing 14853 and Ithaca 14851. The research does not identify that entry as a physical municipal-boundary move. No official narrative of an Ithaca ZIP-boundary realignment or a neighborhood transfer was located, so none should be inferred from the table.

Some tools can use ZIP as a documented filter without becoming resident directories. The New York Department of State licensing search offers optional city, ZIP, county, and license-type filters. The New York unclaimed-funds search has optional city and ZIP fields beside surname and first-name inputs. Each has its own limited purpose and result scope. Neither substitutes for a USPS address check, parcel record, or municipal custodian.

For historic research, preserve the postal form that appears in the source without forcing an older record into a modern delivery pattern. Directories, deeds, maps, and census schedules may use a street name, a locality, or a rural route without a postal code. Compare the source's date and jurisdiction before normalizing an address. A modern mailing result can help locate a place, but it does not rewrite the way an earlier record was created.
